On April 17, 2024, the closing event was held of the project "Strengthening of the capacity of forensic system and inspection of the site of the event" of the "International Police Cooperation and Combating Crime" programme of the European Economic Area (EEA) financial instrument for the 2014-2021 period.

During the event, the Deputy Director of the State Forensic Science Bureau (SFSB) Raimonds Apinis and a forensic scientist of the Department of Biological and Chemical Investigations Kristīne Dokāne informed about the results and outcomes of the SFSB in the project - the equipment acquired, trainings, seminars, conferences and other qualification raising events for forensic scientists, and cooperation with the Norwegian National Criminal Investigation Service KRIPOS, forensic examination methods developed and improved, a database of ink samples created, also the knowledge of SFSB experts in the application of 3D scanning technology in the investigation of road traffic accidents was supplemented.

The total funding for the project "Strengthening of the capacity of forensic system and inspection of the site of the event" is estimated at 2 680 000 EUR, of which the EEA Grants funding of 85% is 2 278 000 EUR and the national co-financing of 15% is 402 000 euro, complemented by a grant of 171 000 EUR from Fund for bilateral relations under the Norway Grants Programme. The project is to be implemented until April 30 2024.
