On 8 February 2022 SFSB experts succeeded in the first extraction of non-human DNA. This is a significant step towards development of a new forensic examination capacity in Latvia – forensic plant DNA examination, in the future to be expanded to examination of animal and synthetic DNA as well.
SFSB nhDNA laboratory was installed in the framework of the project “‘Operational capacity building of forensic examination of tobacco and other plant-based substances” funded by the European Union’s HERCULE III programme.
